Week 9 ~ What is Beauty?

Today there is so much emphasis on how we ‘look’! Are we thin enough? Are we a size 0? Do we look young enough? And the ridiculous, stupid, unrealistic list goes on and on!

Now if God wanted all of us to be the same size, same weight, same height, etc, He would have created us that way! I am tired of girls/women so thin that they look like a skeleton and as for plastic surgery…well there is a reason it is called plastic surgery! Yes, we have become a Nation of obesity and that needs to come to an end, but we certainly don’t need to become a Nation of plastic skeletons walking around!

What has happened to us? Well, in case you don’t know it, satan comes to steal, kill and destroy! And he uses all kinds of ways that are ‘enticing’, ‘fun’ and ‘pleasing’ to our natural selves! Years ago you very seldom saw an obese person outside of a ‘freak show’ at the carnival. Then came more and more of ‘unhealthy’ foods that we flocked to because they tasted so good! The next step was to supersize all the servings! Next to top everything off, came things such as remote controls so you didn’t have to get up to change channels or adjust volumes, computers, etc., etc ~ anything to make us more sedentary!

satan ( I realize I did not capitalize ‘satan’ but I never do!) is very sly! All of these ‘wonderful’ things changed our way of living, our health and our attitudes. Next the world becomes obsessed with ‘looks’! My mother had 2 favorite ‘sayings’ when I was growing up! #1 was, “Beauty is only skin deep” and #2 was, “Pretty is as pretty does“! These are very simple sayings, but oh, so true!

Beauty is not about the outer you! It is about the real you…the inner you! The real you is the spirit you! The outer you is your housing, which will grow old, wrinkle and one day die. Oh, we have to take care of the outer you by living a clean, healthy, active life or it will be destroyed prematurely, but the inner you is what God sees and what others truly see! Your spirit never ages, it matures, and it is what lives for all eternity! So today, let your beauty…the real you…shine through for all to see!
